Limang kalalakihan sa bayan ng Magdiwang sa Sibuyan Island, Romblon ang inaresto nitong January 11 ng mga tauhan ng Magdiwang Municipal Police Station dahil sa iligal na pagputol ng mga punong kahoy.
Kinilala ang mga inaresto na sina Helito Regala Ramilo, 43 years old, married, farmer; Jessie Ribot Modena, 61 years old, married, fisherman; Jerry Dongon Rance, 50 years old, married, fisherman; Orlan Roda Rapada, 30 years old, married, farmer and Santiago Reaṅo Roda, 56 years old, married, fisherman, pawang mga residente ng Barangay Silum, Magdiwang, Romblon.
Inaresto ang lima sa bisa ng warrant of arrest na nilabas ni Regional Trial Court Branch 81 Executive Judge Ramiro Geronimo noong November ng nakaraang taon.
Ayon sa warrant of arrest, lumabag ang lima sa Section 68 ng Presidential Decree No. 705.
Nakasaad sa Section ng nasabing presidential decree ang mga sumusunod:
Cutting, gathering and/or collecting timber or other products without license. Any person who shall cut, gather, collect, or remove timber or other forest products from any forest land, or timber from alienable and disposable public lands, or from private lands, without any authority under a license agreement, lease, license or permit, shall be guilty of qualified theft as defined and punished under Articles 309 and 310 of the Revised Penal Code; Provided, That in the case of partnership, association or corporation, the officers who ordered the cutting, gathering or collecting shall be liable, and if such officers are aliens, they shall, in addition to the penalty, be deported without further proceedings on the part of the Commission on Immigration and Deportation.
Nakakulong na sa Magdiwang Municipal Police Station ang lima at nakatakdang iharap sa korte.
