Atleast a hundred of inmates from Odiongan District Jail in Odiongan, Romblon on Tuesday receives free PTB X-Ray screening in part of the upcoming World TB awareness day. This activity aimed to improved TB case detection of both drug-susceptible and drug-resistant TB inside jail/prison facility.
World TB Day is held each year on March 24th and aims to build public awareness for tuberculosis. A disease which despite being curable, remains a destructive epidemic in much of the world.
It is an opportunity for people everywhere to join this fight by helping to educate others about TB and by urging government to take action.
TB Mass Screening is an active case finding strategy that seeks to actively find all TB cases using a combination of symptom screening procedure supported by a radiographic and TB laboratory diagnostic procedure (Sputum AFB Smear and Gene Xpert Test).
In a message to Romblon News Network by John Mark Gaan, he told that this initiative was a collaborative effort of the Multisectoral Stakeholders’ Alliance in Romblon (MSA), Innovation & Multisectoral Partnership to Achieve Control of Tuberculosis (IMPACT), Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), DOH IV -B, Provincial Health Office, RPH TB DOTS/PMDT – STC facility and the Bureau of Jail Management & Penology (BJMP).
