THE Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has scaled up its humanitarian assistance to tens of thousands of families who have lost their homes and livelihoods after the onslaught of typhoon Nona in Northern Samar, Sorsogon, Masbate, Romblon, and Oriental Mindoro provinces last year.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Nona aftermath rendered 42 people died; four were missing; destroyed 98,371 houses, with estimate damage to infrastructure and agriculture amounting to P6.5 billion.
During the emergency phase, PRC served ready-to-eat meals to 19,900 persons in evacuation centers. Its social workers gave psychosocial support to 601 people and referral services through 31 welfare desks.
