Heavy rains wash out three bridges in Busuanga in Palawan

Three detour bridges in the remote town of Busuanga in Palawan province have been washed out and destroyed by persistent heavy rains that began last week.

Washed out were the Sto. Niño Bridge, Bintuan Bridge and Balugo Bridge – all in the northern part of Busuanga, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) said Friday.

Officer of the MDRRMO, Gudy Aguilar said town residents now have to take the long route to get to their destinations.

She said heavy rains and strong winds have also prevented fishermen from going out to sea, raising fears that Busuanga might run out...

DSWD activates Disaster Quick Response Teams for ‘Habagat’

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Saturday night that it had activated its Quick Response Teams (QRTs) in its different field offices to respond immediately among the affected families by the heavy downpour caused by the Southwest Monsoon.

As of 6 p.m, DSWD’s QRT in National Capital Region (NCR), Regions I, II, III, IV-A (CALABARZON) and IV-B (MIMAROPA) have activated its QRTs to mark their readiness to augment, if needed the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in responding to the needs of families affected.

Region IV-B is now MIMAROPA Region

Opisyal ng naging batas nitong July 17 ang MIMAROPA Act na magpapalit sa rehiyon ng Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, at Palawan na dating may pangalang Region IV-B patungo sa MIMAROPA Region.

Ikinatuwa ito ni Senator JV Ejercito na pinamunuan niyang talakayin.

Ang RA 10879 o MIMAROPA Act ang magbibigay ng distinct regional status sa kasalukuyan niyang rehiyon na Region IV.

Hindi na kailangang tawaging Region IV-B ang rehiyon na binubuo ng Mindoro (Oriental and Occidental), Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan dahil ngayon ay tatawagin na siyang MIMAROPA Region.

Heavy rains wash out bridge in Coron, Palawan

Continuous heavy rains brought by a low pressure area has rendered the Balolo Detour Bridge in Barangay Guadalupe, Coron, Palawan unpassable.

According to regional director of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Subair S. Diron, the Balolo Detour Bridge located at KM0013+913 was washed out by floodwaters.

The DPWH Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) team has been deployed to undertake repair works and were instructed to assist stranded commuters.

Meanwhile, the Bataclan Detour Bridge at KM0026+215 in Barangay Bintuan, also in Coron, which was earlier closed to vehicular traffic, has been cleared and declared passable.
