10 dead, 60 hurt in Davao bomb blast

At least 10 persons died and 60 were injured as a bomb exploded around 10 p.m Friday at the Roxas night market near Ateneo de Davao University here.

This was confirmed by Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella, who is now in the incident area with President Rodrigo Duterte and Press Secretary Martin Andanar.

Police authorities still need to confirm the total number of casualties but people near the area disclosed they saw at least ten bodies laid on the ground after the explosion. (Lilian Mellejor/PNA)

A total of 15 soldiers have already been killed in the government’s heightened campaign against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said on Tuesday.

This developed after President Rodrigo R. Duterte ordered the military troops to destroy the ASG.

In a press briefing with Palace reporters, Abella said the number of military men who were killed in the battle against the ASG was based on reports released by the Department of National Defense (DND).

House agrees to postpone SK, barangay elections

The House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon agreed to postpone the country’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (village and youth council) elections to the fourth Monday of October 2017.

This was the consensus during an all-member House caucus led by Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and Majority Floor Leader Rodolfo Fariñas.

Fariñas said the House bill seeking to defer both elections to Oct. 23, 2017 will be filed during Tuesday’s plenary session. The committees on suffrage and electoral reforms will begin their deliberations on the same day.

“This is what the Senate has filed and this is what we will adopt,” Fariñas said.
