Drilon backs proposal to postpone barangay election

Senate President Franklin Drilon on Thursday said he is favor to the proposal to postponement the barangay election originally set in October.

”I am in favor for the postponement but I do not know the sentiment of others,” Drilon said in an interview with radio dzMM.

Late last month, Commission on Election (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista proposed the postponement of barangay election, saying it would be expensive considering that the country held it’s national and local elections only last May 9.

Duterte says tough stance against criminals ‘a plea to stop’

President-elect Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday night said his tough stance against criminals was actually a “plea” for them to stop.

“I don’t want to use to use extraordinary means," he said, adding a plea to criminals to stop their unlawful activities. "If you do, then we have no problem,” he said.

Duterte was in Cebu Wednesday night to attend two thanksgiving parties organized by his supporters.

Cebu delivered some 1.14 million votes for Duterte in the May 9 local and national elections.

CHED OKs tuition hike for 304 private colleges, universities

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has approved the applications of 304 private higher education institutions (HEIs) to increase their tuition and other school fees for Academic Year (AY) 2016-2017.

In a statement released on Thursday, CHED chairperson Patricia Licuanan said the average nationwide increase for tuition is at 5.10 percent or PHP43.39 per unit, while increase for other school fees is at 5.41 percent or PHP115.58.
