Duterte admin considers 'responsible mining' a key to country's growth

The incoming administration of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte does not oppose to mining but mining firms must do it right.

"The key word here is responsible and the president has made his position very clear: You have to do it right. If you cannot do it right, then get out of mining," incoming Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said a during a press briefing on Thursday.

Abella said Duterte has also asked to apply the standards of responsible mining as practiced in developed countries...

AFP modernization to continue, more focus to be given on platforms to curb internal threats

The continuation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Modernization Program will give more focus on platforms that can be used to address the country's internal security threats.

This was stressed by incoming AFP chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya Thursday.

"(President-elect Rodrigo Duterte) would like to start by improving and updating equipment use for internal security operations so he will prioritize the acquisition of modern helicopters and fastcrafts, with nightfighting capabilities," he added.
